Artists we love

Passion and isolation, beauty and emotion, longing and the individual abyss, these are the words Maria Kreyn uses to describe her classical style paintings. An iconic beauty herself, Kreyn often incorporates elements of self portraiture into her images. Allegorical in nature, many of Kreyn’s paintings depict the female form while exploring concepts of sensuality and identity.

In this painting, Alone Together, Kreyn depicts the passion and isolation of the human condition while in the throws of ecstasy. By blending old master techniques with images of contemporary life Kreyn offers viewers an intimate glance into the contemplative moment of a woman lost in an embrace.

Maria Kreyn is a Russian born figurative painter who is currently based in New York. While widely exhibited within the traditional gallery structure, Kreyn has recently begun connecting with larger audiences outside of the art world when this painting and other works were featured in the ABC TV series The Catch. Captivating both the fictional characters in the series and the real life viewing audience, Kreyn’s paintings in this TV drama play on a sense of intimacy as they drive the plot and intrigue of the series.
